Weekly Update W/E 25/1/2019

We hope you are keeping yourself well and safe. Thick smoke presents in Kingston in the last couple of days and hot conditions are continuing.

Please make sure to look after yourself, family and your pets, also keep eyes on elderly neighbours who are vulnerable to the heat.

As some of you may be aware, David is away on much deserved holiday from Thursday last week until Friday, 8 February inclusive, I am forwarding the Weekly Updates to you for the next 3 weeks. I appreciate your patience while I am running the House and covering two person’s job and apologise for any delay in correspondence that may occur.

Thank you for the volunteers and the committee members who put their hands up to cover the roster and are volunteering extra hours. We still have a few days of not having enough people on the roster. Please feel free to let me know if you are happy to help out, even for 1-2 hours will be very much appreciated.

Tasmanian Fire Service (TFS)

It is timely to remind people of the information available on the Tasmanian Fire Service (TFS) website as the temperature warms up and rain is scarce.

* There is no specific Bushfire Protection Plan for Kingston but there are some for surrounding areas including Summerleas.

Tenancy Law Information Sessions – Know Your Rights

The Tenants Union of Tasmania is conducting free legal information sessions across the state for tenants and other interested parties.

Considering the current Tasmanian housing crisis, it is important for tenants to know their rights so they are not improperly put out onto the street or living in substandard homes.

Thank you for those who already expressed interest to this information session. If you are interested and not yet expressed your interested yet, please let us know by clicking here and we can arrange a sessions (minimum of 10 people required). Please let us know your preferred day and time.

Staff Volunteers and Community Members Meeting – Tuesday 29 January

We are holding a Staff, Volunteers and Community Meeting on 29 January from 12 pm to 1 pm.

This will be the first meeting of the year and we welcome your fresh ideas about community programs and activities and any feedback in regards to our services. The Agenda of the meeting will be available from the office or by emailing Sanae.

Also, Pat Baines who is an Art Therapist at Dementia Australia is attending the meeting and giving a talk about ‘Dementia Friendly Communities’. The meeting is open to community members too, so please spread the word and get as many people as possible to come and listen to this educational talk.

School Holiday Excursion – Dinosaur Revolution – Friday, 25 January

We offer an excursion to families in the community every school holiday and this time we are taking them out to TMAG to visit the Dinosaur Evolution. It is on Friday, 25 January. Bus will leave the House at 10:45 am and due back around 1:45 pm. We can take children age 5-14 for gold coin donation. Accompanying adults need to pay for their own tickets ($12.50 / $10.50 concession) as we received only limited adult tickets with the group booking.

We still have spaces available. Once again, please spread the word to any families you know in the community. Thank you Drew, Linda and Caroline for putting their hands up to organise the excursion and escorting the group on the day.
