Weekly Update W/E 1/2/2019

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I hope you enjoyed the Australia Day long weekend.

As we are all aware and concerned, the bushfires in the Huon valley are putting communities in the south at high risk at the moment and as there’s no significant rain activities forecast for coming weeks, the situation is worsening. Thick smoke is constantly presens in Kingston too and higher than average temperatures are still continuing. Please take care of yourself, your family and pets, and look after each other in this difficult time.

Support for Tasmanians displaced by bushfires

I received the information from the Will Hodgman office this morning in regards to emergency housing support and assistance grant from the Tasmanian Government.

The Tasmanian Government is working closely with affected councils to provide practical and personal support for Tasmanians who have left their homes due to the current bushfires. The grants are being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Tasmanians affected by the fires in the Huon and Central Highlands areas who require clothing, food, transport, shelter and personal items may be able to access emergency housing support and assistance grants at the Huonville and Hamilton Evacuation Centres. People in need of assistance are asked to bring photo identification with proof of address as this will be used to confirm eligibility for the grant.

Contact: James Billing on 0438 399 989

If you know anyone who are evacuated from the affected community and require support, please pass on this information.

Eating with Friends Community Lunch – Friday, 1 February

Eating with Friends Community Lunch is resuming on Friday, 1st February for 2019.

Drew will cook Herbed chicken with German potato salad and tomato salad for main. Carol will announce the desert menu soon, however, she has planned to spoil you with several different deserts to choose from. It costs $6 for two course lunch. It is a great value meal. Special dietary needs will be catered for with prior request.

We continuously had good turnout for the lunch and was good to see some new faces in last year. It is actually a good place to meet  new people in the community and enjoy friendly chat. Please spread the word about the lunch to your friends and neighbours or bring your friends and join us for the lunch. We look forward to seeing you.

School Holiday Excursion – Dinosaur Revolution on Friday 25 January

We offered a School Holiday Family excursion to visit the Dinosaur Evolution at TMAG on Friday, 25 January. Faces of children in the photos say it all – they had a ball! Despite the day of 38 degrees maximum and smoky condition, 25 children and their parents attended.

TMAG Excursion

Thank you again to Drew, Linda and Caroline for organising a fun excursion and escorting the group on the day.
