Bushfire Ready Communities.

Weekly Update W/E 15/11/2019

Good morning everyone, whilst we are looking forward to a bit of wet weather this week, please keep in your thoughts those people who are fighting fires and extreme weather in other parts of the country.

Many thanks to the Tassie firefighters helping out in other states.

A young lady mentioned the other day that one of the things she loves about KNH is that we always say ‘good morning’ to her and ‘ask how she is’.  She said it is the only place she goes where people are polite and caring and she feels respected.

Sometimes we don’t have to do much to make a positive difference.

Remembrance Day – 11 November

At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to unconditional surrender.

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war.

In 1997, Governor-General Sir William Deane issued a proclamation formally declaring 11 November to be Remembrance Day, urging all Australians to observe one minute’s silence at 11 am on 11 November each year to remember those who died or suffered for Australia’s cause in all wars and armed conflicts.

Today, please keep in mind all our brave veterans whose sacrifices for our country helps us become the Australia we are today.

Bushfire Ready Communities

In light of the extreme weather conditions and fires other parts of the country are facing, it is timely to revisit the Tasmania Fire Service – Bushfire Ready Communities.

Stay safe in Tasmania this summer.
